Description

Shadow Robot’s Sensors product line provides advanced tactile sensing for robotic manipulation, created in partnership with leading AI research units. Two sensor types are offered: Optical Sensors using camera-based particle tracking with an extremely high dynamic range from 0.01 N to 80 N, capable of resolving contact surface shapes and force magnitude and direction, delivering a 1,280 by 480 10-bit video stream at 50 FPS on the DEX-EE series. Shadow Tactile Fingertips (STF) use 3D Hall effect technology with 17 taxels each providing a 3D response sensitive to both normal and tangential forces from approximately 0.2 N to 20 N, delivering 17 by 3 12-bit readings at 100 Hz. STFs are available on the Dexterous Hand Series and other robot hands. Both sensor types are very robust. Benefits include enhanced precision for gripping without damage, safe handling of delicate items, texture recognition for sorting and quality control, adaptive movements via real-time embodied AI feedback, improved human presence detection for safe collaboration, and data collection for machine learning training. Targets research and industrial tactile sensing applications.
